Rotorua
A sulphur scent lingers in the air and nearby geothermal hotspots feature erupting geysers, bubbling mud pools and warm geothermal springs and ponds that create a kaleidoscope of colour.
Visitors can experience Maori culture, spa rejuvenation, thrills and adventure or other natural assets such as 16 lakes, some of the world's best mountain biking trails, fantastic trout fishing and myriad forest walking tracks – Rotorua delivers it all.
The region was the birthplace of New Zealand tourism in the 1800s, when people flocked here from around the world to see the amazing Pink and White Terraces - vast, naturally formed silica terraces that cascaded into a volcanic lake. The Arawa people were their local guides. The terraces were destroyed in the 1886 Mt Tarawera eruption, but Rotorua's fame as a fascinating travel destination continued to grow.

Where better to host Rugby World Cup 2011 than in New Zealand, the spiritual home of Rugby. And where better to see the matches than in a grass-roots stadium in a country where Rugby is a way of life.
