Christchurch RWC 2011 matches to be relocated

Rugby World Cup 2011 Tournament partners announced on 16 March 2011 that Christchurch will be unable to host the seven matches scheduled to be played at Stadium Christchurch.

The announcement followed a detailed review of reports assessing damage to key Tournament facilities and infrastructure caused by the devastating 6.3 magnitude earthquake that struck the city on 22 February.

Eden Park has been confirmed as the new venue for the quarter-finals on 8 and 9 October. The five pool matches will be relocated to the following venues:

10 Sept Argentina v England  Otago Stadium, Dunedin
11 Sept Australia v Italy  North Harbour Stadium, Auckland
18 Sept England v Georgia  Otago Stadium, Dunedin
25 Sept Argentina v Scotland  Wellington Regional Stadium, Wellington
1 Oct  Australia v Russia  Rugby Park Stadium, Invercargill

Also, as part of the rescheduling, operational reasons have necessitated the transfer of one non-Christchurch match, Scotland v Georgia, from Dunedin to Invercargill.

14 Sept Scotland v Georgia  Rugby Park Stadium, Invercargill

Purchasers of Official Hospitality Packages for Christchurch and the Scotland v Georgia match have the option to either transfer their booking to the new host venue where the match will take place (subject to comparable hospitality facilities being available), or cancel their booking and receive a full refund. Rugby Travel & Hospitality (RTH) will be contacting these customers directly.

In regards to the Official Travel Programme, RTH will be providing the Official Travel Agents with access to match tickets for the alternative stadiums so that they can amend travel orders which currently include match tickets for Christchurch and Scotland v Georgia.

If you have an Official Travel or Hospitality Package for Christchurch which includes accommodation bookings and/or travel arrangements, RTH advises you to speak directly with your agent.
