There's something big happening in the city of Whangarei - The Northland Events Centre! This new multi-function events centre currently being built at Okara Park, the traditional home of Northland Rugby will hold a larger capacity crowd than the previous stadium and will make a great venue for Rugby World Cup 2011.
Okara Park has seen its fair share of international Rugby action. The British and Irish Lions have played here. So has Tonga, Fiji and Samoa.
It’s Tonga that are once more returning here to play in the pool games, one which is against Canada giving the locals the perfect opportunity to ‘paint the town red.’
